SkyTrain for Surrey, not LRT!

SkyTrain for Surrey is calling on citizens to take note of the City of Surrey’s hiring of political insiders to mislead the federal government on transit issues and falsify an LRT business case.

A Business in Vancouver report has said that the Earnscliffe Strategy group, whose B.C. office is led by a previous campaign co-chair for the federal Liberal party, was given a $21,656 contract by the City of Surrey to “implement a communications plan with the aim of translating the federal government’s commitments on infrastructure funding into support for the Surrey LRT project.”

Daryl Dela Cruz, campaign chair, said:

“If there are any quantifiable merits to this Light Rail project, the process would be straightforward: present project, get funds, build. Instead, additional taxpayer dollars are being spent and wasted to fabricate reasons for an unsustainable project.”

SkyTrain for Surrey has criticized the City of Surrey on its decision to pursue a street-level Light Rail system, which will increase greenhouse-gas emissions, do little to improve travel times and cause major traffic disruption within the community. These efforts have included our identification of 14 major issues that have not been addressed by the City of Surrey or LRT supporters. These issues have been listed on our website at skytrainforsurrey.org/issues.
