FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – September 10, 2018 – Surrey, BC
Peter Fassbender, the former Minister responsible for TransLink and former Mayor of the City of Langley, has suggested that an extension of the SkyTrain Expo Line is the better rapid transit solution on Fraser Highway between Surrey and Langley.
Fassbender told CKNW news radio that “[looking] 30 years down the road, and the volume, and what may happen at Abbotsford airport — a system that ties into the existing rapid transit system, namely SkyTrain, probably is the most efficient system for the long term.”
“A system that ties into the existing rapid transit system, namely SkyTrain, probably is the most efficient system for the long term.”
He has also said that the choice should be determined through examination of a proper business case.
We are pleased to acknowledge this statement of support for a SkyTrain extension on Fraser Highway – one of our primary campaign goals. We have taken the position that SkyTrain is the best and only feasible choice for the Surrey-Langley Line. Extending SkyTrain is the only option that will significantly reduce travel times.
Peter Fassbender has also announced his run for Mayor of Langley City during the municipal elections this October, intending to return to the position after several years in the provincial legislature. His position would tie in with the current position taken by the City of Langley, which declared a preference for extending SkyTrain earlier this year.
We are excited about the potential to be working with a strong ally in Langley City for SkyTrain expansion South-of-the-Fraser.
