SkyTrain for Surrey, not LRT!

MEDIA RELEASE

SkyTrain supporters rally against Light Rail in Surrey

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 6, 2018 – Surrey, BC

Over the past week, SkyTrain for Surrey supporters were among numerous in the community who gathered together on multiple occasions to demonstrate opposition to the Surrey Light Rail Transit vision.

Participants held signs and set up display boards, handed out flyers, and talked to those nearby at several events to raise awareness of issues with the LRT plan. The largest event, our inaugural RALLY AGAINST LRT event, was held this Tuesday at the intersection of King George Blvd and 88 Ave.

We also set up display boards and held signs at two of the Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT open houses hosted by TransLink and the Surrey LRT team, and joined others in the community campaigning at City of Surrey open houses for the Guildford and 104 Ave corridor consultations

About SkyTrain for Surrey

SkyTrain for Surrey is the community organization that advocated for the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension, and continues to push for high-quality rapid transit projects in Surrey and Langley. We began as a petition calling for the scrapping of a street-level LRT proposal, which eventually amassed more than 6,000 signatures, and later contributed to making SkyTrain an election issue as a registered third-party advertiser. SkyTrain for Surrey continues to call for high-quality projects that offer a positive return-on-investment and recognize the rapidly increasing demand for transit.
