SkyTrain for Surrey, not LRT!

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Join us for a RALLY AGAINST LRT on June 5th

June 3, 2018 – Surrey, BC

Join us for a RALLY AGAINST LRT event on June 5th. Show up and join us as we voice our opposition to the Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT and the Surrey LRT vision.

Starting at 5PM, we will launch the event at the busy intersection of King George Blvd & 88th Avenue. We will gather here to  display protest signs to passing vehicles and raise awareness of major LRT issues.

RSVP on Facebook

SkyTrain/BRT supporters who want a say in the LRT consultations are also urged to do the TransLink Online Survey which is open om May 25 – June 14, 2018.

What to expect

This rally will be similar to recent events/mini-rallies we hosted in conjunction with recent Surrey LRT open houses to raise awareness of the issues. We will bring a number of large signs that will be visible to passers-by, and a large display board will greet pedestrians with information about the numerous issues of the Light Rail vision. The below gallery showcases what this looked like at our previous events.

Please give yourself ample time to travel to the rally location by either transiting or driving as we will start at 5PM during PM rush hour. Coming by transit on the 96 B-Line is highly recommended – the 96 uses an exclusive bus lane to bypass much of the traffic congestion on King George Blvd approaching 88th.

After rush hour traffic on King George Blvd has subsided, we may move display boards and other materials closer to the LRT open house location in front of the Surrey Arts Centre and Bear Creek Park.

Please note that we will NOT be obstructing traffic. Please be courteous and help passing commuters get to their destinations; use the sidewalk or other non-road space.

About SkyTrain for Surrey

SkyTrain for Surrey is the community organization that advocated for the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension, and continues to push for high-quality rapid transit projects in Surrey and Langley. We began as a petition calling for the scrapping of a street-level LRT proposal, which eventually amassed more than 6,000 signatures, and later contributed to making SkyTrain an election issue as a registered third-party advertiser. SkyTrain for Surrey continues to call for high-quality projects that offer a positive return-on-investment and recognize the rapidly increasing demand for transit.
