SkyTrain for Surrey, not LRT!

CAMPAIGN UPDATE

Voice Your Opposition: Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT Stage 3 Public Engagement

May 26, 2018 – Surrey, BC

TransLink has launched another public consultation process for the Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT as part of the “stage 3” public engagements for the project. This is your opportunity to tell TransLink directly that you don’t support the Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT and Surrey’s LRT vision.

There are several ways to participate in this process:

1. Online Survey

An online survey is open from May 25 to June 14, and is on the TransLink website at:
translink.checkbox.ca/Surrey-Newtown-Guildford-LRT-Project-Stage-3-Engagement.aspx

It is absolutely imperative that everyone participate this survey, making TransLink and Surrey aware of your opposition to LRT.

TransLink recommends that you view the Engagement Display Boards, read the Environmental and Socio-Economic Review and watch the new LRT simulation video to inform yourself for the survey.

Survey Completion Guide

The survey opens with an introduction page. Press Next to proceed. Fill in the requested details on the next page, and then press Next to begin the survey.

Various pages related to the SNG LRT socio-economic review will come up (#1-#7). While we encourage you to rate the individual items based on your own thoughts and conclusions, we would recommend expressing your dissatisfaction strongly as we have done so.

Remember: SNG LRT fundamentally fails to deliver on many essential rapid transit outcomes such as reduced travel times, improved reliability and increased transit mode-share.

Make sure to use the blank boxes (#6, #7) to make TransLink aware of your dissatisfaction with the SNG LRT project and the Surrey LRT vision.

Additional suggested comments:

  • TransLink should cancel the Surrey-Newton-Guildford LRT project in favour of Bus Rapid Transit/BRT on King George Blvd & 104 Ave. A BRT project is capable of producing ALL of the travel time savings and development outcomes of a Light Rail system
  • A BRT project offers more construction flexibility to mitigate the environmental impacts associated with the current Light Rail plan
  • Redirecting SNG LRT project funds to an Expo Line: SkyTrain extension would offer higher environmental/socio-economic benefits for South Fraser region

2. Open Houses

Stakeholders are being encouraged to participate at open house events being held at several locations in Surrey. They are:

DateTimeLocationAddress
Thurs May 313PM to 6PMSurrey City Hall13450 104 Ave, Surrey
Sat June 2
10AM to 2PMPeoples Church14455 104 Ave, Surrey
Tues June 55:30PM to 7:30PMSurrey Arts Centre13750 88 Ave, Surrey

We encourage you to join our outreach teams as we will be set up in the vicinity of these events to demonstrate our opposition to LRT. Further information on these events will be posted.

About SkyTrain for Surrey

SkyTrain for Surrey is the community organization that advocated for the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension, and continues to push for high-quality rapid transit projects in Surrey and Langley. We began as a petition calling for the scrapping of a street-level LRT proposal, which eventually amassed more than 6,000 signatures, and later contributed to making SkyTrain an election issue as a registered third-party advertiser. SkyTrain for Surrey continues to call for high-quality projects that offer a positive return-on-investment and recognize the rapidly increasing demand for transit.
