SkyTrain for Surrey, not LRT!

Research Co. poll excludes question on SkyTrain to Langley

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – October 18, 2018 – Surrey, BC

A new poll on transit released by Research Co. is suppressing the voices of those in favour of a SkyTrain extension from Surrey to Langley.

This poll has claimed the majority of people are in support of the Surrey Light Rail Transit project, but it has only asked about the first phase of the project (the Surrey-Newton-Guildford line). No question was included regarding a future extension of LRT or SkyTrain from Surrey to Langley, even though the poll asks about a future extension of the Broadway SkyTrain from Arbutus to UBC.

Although the poll has claimed that a majority of people in Surrey support the Surrey-Newton-Guildford Light Rail Transit project, the poll asked only about 635 adults throughout the Metro Vancouver area, and no breakdown was included to show what proportion of the people asked came from which cities.

The poll results also come just as both Mayoral candidates from the City of Langley have declared their support for SkyTrain over at-grade Light Rail Transit.

We are disappointed that Research Co. has suppressed the voices of many people in both Surrey and Langley who would like to see an extension of SkyTrain by excluding a question on the extension from their poll.

About SkyTrain for Surrey

SkyTrain for Surrey is the community organization that advocated for the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension, and continues to push for high-quality rapid transit projects in Surrey and Langley. We began as a petition calling for the scrapping of a street-level LRT proposal, which eventually amassed more than 6,000 signatures, and later contributed to making SkyTrain an election issue as a registered third-party advertiser. SkyTrain for Surrey continues to call for high-quality projects that offer a positive return-on-investment and recognize the rapidly increasing demand for transit.
